I am 46 and would like to become a PHP/MySql developer. I was wondering if I was too old? If not should I develop under linux? Learning linux? How long the all process will take if I study 3H/per day. I know my way around PCs. Thx.
Am I too old at 46 to become a PHP Developer?
The easiest one to start with is Software Testing (Software Quality Assurance). Within 3-4 month you can start working with compensation in the $15-25 per hour range. It will grow over time.
Your success depends though on where you live and how passionate you are in getting through. I have been teaching Software QA in a career school in Silicon Valley since 1994. We have 20-30% of students of your age and computer skills level. 2-3 month of classroom training + 3 month of school arranged internship will do the job.
I would suggest to go for classroom training or for a private tutor. Online classes will not help with getting a real job.

Reply:look at it this way- You have practically got half of your life left to live! You can never be too old- look at thn 96 year olf woman on the news who is studying in Univercity! Yeah, i think you should develop under linux, it depends of how good you are at absorbing information. It could take a short time or a very long time.
Reply:I'm turning 40 this year, and I left the security of a full-time teaching career. I"m a state certified elementary teacher with
additional college credits and specialized training.
I'm sick of the low pay, I would have to work until I am 70 in order to retire comfortably as a teacher!
Instead, I'm going back to Arizona State Univ to study Calculus, Statistics, and Finance to get my Post-Bach in Applied Math and Finance. So NO WAY are you TOO old to do what you want !!!!
Reply:No you are not too old to learn new things. Three hours a day of study may not get you there quickly, but if that is all the time you have, for example, if you are working full time, you will eventually reach your goal. Good PHP/MySQL developers are always in demand. A good approach would be to start with some evening courses in a nearby college.
Reply:Only you can answer that question. If you can actually learn PHP, you aren't too old. Programmers tend to be a little older anyway in larger companies.
Reply:you are never too old for anything, my friend. if you want to do it, do it.
Reply:if you've still got fresh irdeas
